GRADE 6 SCIENCE SUMMER ASSIGNMENT
DUE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

This is the first step in the process of developing an invention for the Invention Convention part of OLM's Science Fair.  Follow these directions to complete this part of your Invention Convention project.
1.  Choose an inventor or team of inventors from the list that follows.
2. Investigate this inventor or team and discover the invention for which this
         person or team is responsible.
3. Pretend that you are an advertising executive in charge of publicizing this
         invention.
4. Create a poster that will tell people about his invention and why they should
         buy it, use it, or invest in the development of the idea.
5. Poster Information
a. Your poster must be on an 8.5x11 inch sheet of paper, with your name on
               the front in the lower right-hand corner.
b. Your poster must include the followining information:
i. The first, middle, and last name of your inventor
ii. a picture of the invention;
     iii. a picture of the inventor
           iv. an explanation of three or four sentences, in your own word, why this
   invention is important;
v. an explanation, in your own words, of the process that led to this
                    invention;
           c. Challenge yourself by adding at least three of the following:
i. place your poster on a piece of construction paper for greater
                    stability;
ii. find a quote by your inventor to add to the poster;
                 iii. tell about the inventor's ibackgraound: family, education, job at the
                     time the invention was made, what was happening in history at the time
                     the invention was made, etc.;
iv. tell if the inventor worked alone or with others;
     v. tell if there are any museums or places named after your inventor.

YOUR GRADE WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE FOLLOWING:
* The overall presentation
* The use of your own words in the text;
* The spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure;
* The accuracy of the information;
* The creativity;
* If it is handed in on time.
